Minutes from the Tuesday October 7, 2025 City of Jeanerette Public Works and Safety Committee Meeting Present- Mayor Carol Bourgois Jr, Finance Manager Christie Connor, Public Works director Howard White, Elizabeth Moore, Police Chief Terrance Moore. Fire Chief Sherry Landry, Anderson Clay and Brandon Domingue from Statewide. The meeting was called to order by the Mayor and he led the prayer There were no public comments. Fire Chief Sherry Landry reported her department responded to 69 emergency calls, 58 in the city and 11 auto aid. There was one structure fire to a shed and they were able to keep it from spreading to the house. One employee had his mother pass away and the service was in Texas. Unit 601 was in for servicing 3 times and needs to go again on Monday 602 went in once. The department had their annual extrication tools serviced. Chief Landry did show and tell at the Head Start with Sparky for 2 classes. The Chief will also be bringing Sparky to National Night Out. On the 9th she will attend a fire prevention program at the Head Start, and on Friday she will attend a fire prevention program at St. Charles Elementary. Chief Landry also announced that the City was given a Level 4 fire rating, which is an improvement from the previous rating of 5 and is the first time in the history of the department to get such a good rating. This will have a positive effect on home owner insurance rates. Elizabeth Moore reported that public works repaired 5 water leaks, 15 dotties called for marking, they filled some potholes, they laid crushed asphalt at the sewer plant. They removed some bushes at city hall and they trimmed some branches on Green St and Martin Luther King. They mowed at 30 different locations. They responded to one sewer backup. Chief Terrance Moore reported the department responded to 60 calls in September. There were 3 armed robberies, 2 have been identified and are also wanted by US Marshals and other agencies. There were 8 thefts with one being a felony, 2 domestic violence with 1 felony, one narcotic arrest, 1 juvenile arrest. They offered mutual assistance to Jeanerette Fire Department, Jeanerette City Marshal’s Office, Baldwin Police Dept, New Iberia Police Dept, Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office, Acadian Ambulance Service, League City Police Dept Texas, St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office. They recovered 80,000 stolen property for League City. Anderson Clay reported that the water plant is operating efficiently, and added that sometime next month to look at a city wide flush. On the sewer side the lift stations the extra pump has been added to the Pellerin station, at the plant two aerators are working, and one clarifier. Brandon stated that one pump is in the shop. The Mayor reported there will be a ground breaking at Maison Teche. Cabot repaired the pump for their fire suppression system and they have been pulling water every day to fill the tanks. The group discussed the leak at Cabot in their fire system. This is an unmetered line and this a significant water loss in the system. Anderson also addressed production measurement methods and The Mayor said he is contacting LRWA for help with water leak identification. With no other business to consider the meeting was adjourned.
