ORDINANCE NO. 2023-05B

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND AND REENACT SECTIONS 2-1004

BE IT ORDAINED by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the City of Jeanerette, in regular session assembled,

That the Code of Ordinance of the City of Jeanerette, Sections SECTION 2-1004 are hereby AMENDED and REENACTED to read as follows, to wit:
WHEREAS, Louisiana Revised Statue RS 42:14 states
each public body conducting a meeting which is subject to the notice requirements of R.S. 42:19(A) shall allow a public comment period at any point in the meeting prior to action on an agenda item upon which a vote is to be taken.
WHEREAS, the section 2-1004- sets the order of business for each meeting but does not specify a time for public comment period.
BE IT THEREFORE ORDAINED, by the Board of Aldermen, City of Jeanerette, State of Louisiana, that the ordinance now read

Sec. 2-1004. - Order of business.
The order of business for each meeting of the board of aldermen shall be as follows:

(1) Call to order.
(2) Prayer.
(3) Pledge of allegiance.
(4) Roll call-determination of a quorum.
(5) Public Comment on Agenda items.
(6) Approval of minutes of the last regular and/or special meeting(s).
(7) Correspondence.
(8) Announcements by mayor.
(9) Reports.
(10) Mayor's agenda items.
(11) Proclamations.
(12) Resolutions.
(13) Ordinances.
(14) Adjourn.
BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED, that all ordinances and resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.

This Ordinance shall take effect on July 10, 2023.

This Ordinance was introduced on the 8th day of May 2023 by Alderwoman Moore notice of public hearing having been posted on May 10th, 2023, said public hearing having been held on June 12, 2023, the title having been read and the ordinance considered, clarification requested and public meeting held on July 10, 2023 on motion of Alderman Bourgeois, whom moved its adoption, seconded by Alderwoman Simmons, and upon roll call was adopted by its title, section by section, and as a whole, by the following yea and nay vote:

Yeas: Alderwoman Clay, Alderwoman Moore, Alderman Bourgeois, Alderwoman Simmons Alderman Duplechain
Nay: None
Absent: None
Abstain: None

This Ordinance was thereupon declared adopted by Mayor and was approved and signed by him and attested by the City Clerk and the corporate seal of the City of Jeanerette affixed hereto on this 11th day of July 2023.
