To: Council Members and City Attorney

To ensure we do not miss an opportunity for funding to improve the operation of our existing sewer treatment facility, I am requesting authorization from the Council to submit an application to the Water Sector Commission for funding to rehabilitate the facility.

The Water Sector Commission has informed us that the City of Jeanerette is eligible to reapply for state funds currently available for such projects, with a funding cap of $5,000,000 and does not have the tight time constraints that the federal funds had. We anticipate that our project will qualify for this assistance. Securing these funds will support the City’s efforts to comply with LDEQ’s active compliance order.

The State’s application deadline is December 1st. To allow sufficient time to prepare the application, I am requesting that a special meeting be scheduled for Monday, November 17, 2025, at 6:30 p.m.

The agenda for the special meeting include the following items:

1. Authorize the Mayor to sign the necessary documents required to submit an application for funding to the Louisiana Water Sector Commission for the rehabilitation of the existing sewer treatment facility.
2. Authorize the Mayor to execute an agreement with Sellers & Associates to provide for the preparation of the application to the Water Sector Commission as well as the engineering, surveying and grant management for the project if it is funded.
