The City of Jeanerette met on February 10, 2025. The following resolution was offered by Alderwoman Clay and seconded by Alderwoman Moore
RESOLUTION 2 of 2025
A RESOLUTION TO RECOGNIZE AND DEDICATE A PORTION OF MARTIN LUTHER KING DR. FROM HEBERT STREET TO ST. PETER STREET AS
THE JAMES “TK” ALEXANDER, SR. MEMORIAL PARKWAY
WHEREAS, The City of Jeanerette, Louisiana recognizes the contribution, dedication and commitment of the late James “TK” Alexander, Sr. as Mayor for the City of Jeanerette from 1995 -1999; and
WHEREAS, The City of Jeanerette, Louisiana recognizes that James “TK” Alexander, Sr. was the first-ever elected African American to become Jeanerette’s Mayor, serving the public for a total of 12 years and leaving behind a lasting legacy, including the construction of a basketball gymnasium addition to the King Joseph Recreational Center for the Jeanerette Community as well as numerous other accomplishments within the commuity; and
WHEREAS, The City of Jeanerette, Louisiana recognizes the contributions of the late Mayor James “TK” Alexander, Sr.; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, The City of Jeanerette, Louisiana desires the designation of Martin Luther King Dr. as The James “TK” Alexander, Sr. Memorial Parkway; and
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that this Resolution shall become effective immediately upon adoption by the City of Jeanerette Board of Aldermen and approved for the portion Martin Luther King Dr. from Hebert Street to St. Peter Street as The James “TK” Alexander, Sr. Memorial Parkway. This Resolution having been submitted to a vote, the vote thereon was as follows:
Yeas: Alderwoman Clay, Alderwoman Moore, Alderwoman Simmons, Alderman Duplechain
Nay: None
Absent: Alderman Bourgeois,
Abstain: None:
And the Resolution was declared adopted this 10th day of February 2025.
THEREUPON, the above resolution was duly adopted.
